Union Government
(1) An election to fill a vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of office of Vice-President shall be completed before the expiration of the term. (2) An election to fill a vacancy occurring by reason of death, resignation or removal shall be held as soon as possible after the occurrence of the vacancy, and the person elected is entitled to a full five-year term from the date they enter office.
Similar to the presidential vacancy rules, a Vice-Presidential election must be completed before a scheduled term ends, or as soon as possible after an unexpected vacancy - though, notably, there is no fixed six-month outer deadline as there is for a presidential vacancy.
If a Vice-President resigns mid-term, Parliament proceeds to elect a new Vice-President as soon as practicable, though the Constitution does not fix a hard maximum number of months for this, unlike the six-month rule for a presidential vacancy.
