State Government
When a High Court's Chief Justice office is vacant, or the Chief Justice is unable to perform duties due to absence or otherwise, the President appoints another Judge of that Court to perform those duties.
This mirrors Article 126 (Supreme Court acting Chief Justice) at the state level: a gap in a High Court's Chief Justice office is filled by the President appointing another sitting judge of that Court to act in the role temporarily.
This ensures a High Court always has someone performing the Chief Justice's administrative functions even during a brief transition between one Chief Justice's departure and their successor's appointment.
