State Government
(1) The President may transfer a Judge from one High Court to another. (2) A transferred Judge is entitled to a compensatory allowance in addition to salary.
The President has the power to transfer a High Court judge to a different state's High Court - in practice, done on the collegium's recommendation today rather than the NJAC process the printed text again references (same accuracy note as Article 217). Judge transfers have sometimes been controversial when perceived as a way of sidelining a judge for a politically inconvenient ruling, though the process is meant to be judicially driven, not government-directed.
A High Court judge transferred from their home state to a High Court in a different part of the country receives an additional compensatory allowance for the relocation, on top of their regular judicial salary.
