State Government
(1) While the Speaker's office is vacant, the Deputy Speaker (or, if that's also vacant, a member appointed by the Governor) performs the Speaker's duties. (2) During the Speaker's absence from a sitting, the Deputy Speaker, or a person determined by the Assembly's rules or by the Assembly itself, acts as Speaker.
This mirrors Article 95 at the state level: if the Speaker's office is vacant or the Speaker is simply absent, the Deputy Speaker or another designated backup steps in.
If a state Assembly's Speaker is unwell and misses a sitting, the Deputy Speaker presides over that day's proceedings instead.
