Offences Against Women and Children
An act done before a child's birth, intending to prevent it being born alive or causing it to die after birth (and actually achieving that), if not done in good faith to save the mother's life, is punished with up to 10 years' imprisonment, fine, or both.
This covers acts specifically intended to kill a child at or around the moment of birth - distinct from the earlier miscarriage provisions, which concern ending a pregnancy - again with a good-faith, life-saving exception for the mother.
This section specifically addresses acts timed around the moment of birth intended to prevent a live birth or cause the newborn's death, treated distinctly from earlier-stage miscarriage-related offences.
