Offences Relating to Public Morals
Selling/hiring/distributing/exhibiting/circulating (or offering/attempting to) an obscene object (as defined in Section 294) to a child is punished on first conviction with up to 3 years' imprisonment plus up to ₹2,000 fine, rising to up to 7 years plus up to ₹5,000 fine on repeat conviction.
This significantly enhances the obscenity penalty specifically when a child is the recipient, reflecting the heightened harm of exposing children to obscene material.
Selling or showing obscene material specifically to a child triggers this significantly harsher penalty compared to the general obscenity offence in Section 294.
