False Evidence and Offences Against Public Justice
Having been charged with an offence and released on bail/bond, failing without sufficient cause (the burden of proof lying on the accused) to appear in Court as required, is punished with up to 1 year's imprisonment, fine, or both - in addition to the underlying-offence punishment and without prejudice to bond forfeiture.
This creates a distinct, additional offence specifically for jumping bail - failing to appear in court as promised after being released - stacked on top of the original charge and any bond forfeiture.
Someone released on bail who simply fails to show up for their court date without a valid reason faces this additional bail-jumping offence, on top of losing their bail bond and facing the original underlying charge.
