False Evidence and Offences Against Public Justice
A person with legal authority to commit people for trial or confinement, who corruptly/maliciously commits or confines someone knowing it's contrary to law, is punished with up to 7 years' imprisonment, fine, or both.
This criminalises knowingly unlawful detention or committal decisions made by someone in a position of legal custodial authority, for corrupt or malicious reasons.
An official with authority over detention decisions who knowingly and maliciously commits someone to confinement they know is unlawful faces this offence.
