False Evidence and Offences Against Public Justice
Accepting (or agreeing to accept) gratification on the pretence of helping recover movable property lost through an offence, without using all reasonably available means to get the actual offender apprehended and convicted, is punished with up to 2 years' imprisonment, fine, or both.
This targets a specific dishonest practice - agreeing to "help" recover stolen property for a fee without genuinely trying to bring the actual thief to justice, effectively profiting from facilitating theft recovery while shielding the offender.
A middleman who accepts payment to "arrange" the return of stolen goods, without making any genuine effort to help police catch the actual thief, commits this offence.
