False Evidence and Offences Against Public Justice
Giving (or offering/agreeing to give) gratification, or restoring property, to induce someone to conceal an offence or screen an offender, is punished based on the underlying offence's severity, mirroring Sections 249-250's tiers - except where the underlying offence may lawfully be compounded (settled).
This is the paying side of the bribe covered by Section 250 - offering the bribe to buy protection for an offender - with an exception for offences the law permits to be lawfully settled between the parties.
Offering a bribe to a witness or complainant specifically to get them to drop or conceal a serious criminal matter is an offence under this section, unless the underlying offence is one the law allows to be lawfully compounded.
