False Evidence and Offences Against Public Justice
Knowingly harbouring/concealing an offender to screen them from punishment, after an offence has been committed, is punished based on the underlying offence's severity: up to 5 years plus fine (death-punishable offences), up to 3 years plus fine (life/10-year offences), or up to a quarter of the offence's maximum term (fine, or both) otherwise - except when the harbourer is the offender's spouse.
This is the general harbouring-an-offender offence (as distinct from the earlier, more specific harbouring provisions for State prisoners, deserters, etc.), with the same family-protective spousal exception seen throughout the BNS.
Someone who knowingly hides a person they know committed dacoity, specifically to help them evade punishment, faces up to 3 years' imprisonment under this section - unless the person hiding them is the offender's own spouse.
