Contempts of the Lawful Authority of Public Servants
Being legally bound to attend (in person or via agent) per a lawful summons/notice/order, and intentionally failing to attend or leaving early, is punished with up to 1 month's imprisonment, up to ₹5,000 fine, or both - rising to 6 months/₹10,000 for Court appearances.
This criminalises deliberately failing to appear when legally summoned, with a higher penalty specifically for skipping a required Court appearance.
A witness who is legally summoned to testify before a District Judge but intentionally skips the appearance commits this offence.
