Contempts of the Lawful Authority of Public Servants
Absconding to avoid being served a summons/notice/order from a legally competent public servant is punished with up to 1 month's imprisonment, up to ₹5,000 fine, or both - rising to up to 6 months/₹10,000 if the summons relates to a Court appearance or document production.
This criminalises deliberately evading legal service of process, with a higher penalty when the evaded proceeding specifically concerns a Court matter.
Deliberately hiding to avoid being served with a court summons is itself a separate punishable offence under this section, beyond whatever the underlying legal matter concerns.
