Offences by or Relating to Public Servants
Someone outside a class of public servants who wears/carries a garb or token resembling that class's, intending or knowing it likely to be believed they belong to it, is punished with up to 3 months' imprisonment, up to ₹5,000 fine, or both.
This targets impersonation through uniform or official-looking insignia specifically (rather than through claims or conduct, which Section 204 covers).
Wearing a fake police or official uniform specifically to be mistaken for genuine government personnel - a tactic often used to intimidate scam victims or gain unwarranted access - is an offence under this section.
