Offences by or Relating to Public Servants
Falsely pretending to hold a public-servant office (or falsely personating its actual holder), and acting or attempting to act under that assumed authority, is punished with 6 months to 3 years' imprisonment plus fine.
This directly criminalises impersonating a government official and using that false identity to actually take official-seeming action - a common tactic in impersonation scams.
This is the key provision used to prosecute scammers who falsely pose as police officers, tax officials, or other government authorities to intimidate or defraud victims into compliance or payment.
