Former sarpanch murder case: Sitting Mannewal village head named in FIR, say Cops

A former village sarpanch was shot dead while returning home in his vehicle after visiting his land in Mannewal. According to reports, two motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted his Toyota Innova near Punjab Agro Farm on the Ladhowal bypass and allegedly opened fire, discharging around 10 shots. Seven bullets struck the victim, causing fatal injuries to his chest and abdomen, and he died at the spot.

Following a complaint by the victim's son, police registered a first information report naming a total of eight individuals, including the sitting sarpanch of Mannewal, a cousin of the victim, and several family members. Investigators stated that the victim's family alleged a property dispute between the victim and his cousin, with the sitting sarpanch accused of supporting the cousin during the dispute.

Police stated that the investigation is examining the alleged roles of all named individuals and working to identify the two suspected shooters who carried out the attack. A post-mortem examination confirmed the bullet injuries, and authorities are continuing inquiries based on statements provided by the victim's family.
