Union Government
A member holding office as Deputy Chairman of the Council of States shall vacate office if he ceases to be a member of the Council, may resign by writing to the Chairman, and may be removed by a resolution of the Council passed by a majority of all its then members, after at least fourteen days' notice.
The Rajya Sabha's Deputy Chairman automatically loses that office if they stop being a Rajya Sabha member, can resign voluntarily, or can be removed by a majority vote of the full Rajya Sabha membership after adequate advance notice.
If a Deputy Chairman's Rajya Sabha term ends and they are not re-elected as an MP, they automatically cease to be Deputy Chairman too - the two positions are tied together.
