Directive Principles
The State shall endeavour to - (a) promote international peace and security; (b) maintain just and honourable relations between nations; (c) foster respect for international law and treaty obligations in the dealings of organised peoples with one another; and (d) encourage settlement of international disputes by arbitration.
The government should work to promote world peace, maintain fair and honourable relations with other nations, respect international law and treaty obligations, and prefer resolving international disputes through arbitration and negotiation rather than conflict.
India's long-standing foreign policy emphasis on peaceful coexistence (the Panchsheel principles), active participation in the United Nations, and general preference for resolving disputes with neighbouring countries through negotiation and international mechanisms reflect this directive.
