Directive Principles
The State shall take steps to separate the judiciary from the executive in the public services of the State.
The government should ensure that judicial functions (deciding legal cases) are kept separate from executive/administrative functions, so that the people delivering justice are not the same people running day-to-day administration - this helps keep justice independent and unbiased.
This directive is why India moved away from executive magistrates who combined police administration and judicial powers, towards a separate judicial magistracy under the Code of Criminal Procedure, ensuring cases are decided by judicial officers independent of the police and administration.
