Offences Against Women and Children
Dishonestly or fraudulently going through a marriage ceremony, knowing it doesn't create a lawful marriage, is punished with up to 7 years' imprisonment plus fine.
This targets sham marriage ceremonies conducted specifically to deceive someone (or others) into believing a legally valid marriage occurred, when the person going through it knows it doesn't actually create one.
Someone who knowingly participates in a fake marriage ceremony - one that doesn't meet the legal requirements for a valid marriage - specifically to deceive the other party or others, is liable under this section.
