General Provisions
In calculating fractions of punishment terms, imprisonment for life is reckoned as equivalent to 20 years, unless otherwise provided.
This is a technical calculation rule: whenever the law needs to compute a fraction (like "one-fourth") of a life sentence for some other purpose, life imprisonment is treated as equal to a fixed 20-year term for that specific calculation.
This rule matters for calculating things like default-imprisonment caps tied to a fraction of the maximum sentence - without a fixed reference point, you couldn't meaningfully calculate a "fraction" of an open-ended life sentence.
