Offences Relating to Documents
Possessing a document/record known forged and intended for fraudulent/dishonest use as genuine is punished with up to 7 years' imprisonment plus fine (if it's a Section 337-type document, like a forged identity document), or life imprisonment/up to 7 years plus fine (if it's a Section 338-type document, like a forged valuable security).
This criminalises mere knowing POSSESSION of forged high-stakes documents with intent to use them, not just the act of forging them.
Being caught holding a forged Aadhaar Card, knowing it's fake and intending to use it as genuine, is itself a separately punishable offence under this section, even without having forged it yourself.
