Offences Against Property
(1) House-trespass done while taking precautions to conceal it from someone entitled to exclude/eject the trespasser is "lurking house-trespass". (2) House-trespass becomes "house-breaking" if entry/exit happens via: a self-made passage; an unintended entry passage (or by scaling/climbing); a passage opened by improper means; unlocking a lock; using/threatening criminal force; or a passage the trespasser knows was deliberately fastened against them.
This defines the more serious "housebreaking" category - trespass involving an unusual, forced, or deceptive method of entry/exit (climbing through a window, picking a lock, forcing past someone), as opposed to simply walking in through an unlocked open door.
Entering someone's home through a window, or by picking a lock, rather than through an unlocked open door, elevates the offence from ordinary house-trespass to the more serious housebreaking.
