False Evidence and Offences Against Public Justice
A public servant legally bound to apprehend/confine someone already under Court sentence or lawfully committed to custody, who intentionally fails to apprehend, lets escape, or aids escape, is punished based on the underlying sentence's severity: life or up to 14 years (death sentence), up to 7 years (life/10-year sentence), or up to 3 years (lesser sentence) - all with or without fine.
This mirrors Section 259 but for someone already convicted and sentenced (rather than merely charged), with an even higher penalty tier given the person is already a confirmed convict, not merely an accused.
A jail official who deliberately allows a death-row convict to escape faces up to 14 years' imprisonment under this section, reflecting the extreme seriousness of letting an already-sentenced capital offender go free.
