General Provisions
Nothing is an offence if done by a child aged 7-12 who hasn't attained sufficient maturity to judge the nature and consequences of their conduct on that occasion.
For children aged 7 to 12, criminal responsibility isn't automatic either way - it depends on whether that specific child had, at that specific time, enough maturity to actually understand what they were doing and its consequences.
A 9-year-old who genuinely didn't understand the seriousness or consequences of their actions would be protected under this exception, while a more mature 9-year-old who clearly understood what they were doing might not be.
