Offences Against Public Tranquillity
(1) Two or more people fighting in a public place, disturbing public peace, commit "affray". (2) Punished with up to 1 month's imprisonment, up to ₹1,000 fine, or both.
This is a lesser public-order offence for public fighting that disturbs the peace, distinct from and less serious than unlawful assembly or rioting since it doesn't require a shared unlawful common object.
A spontaneous public fistfight between two people that disturbs bystanders and public order, without any pre-existing unlawful common purpose, is prosecuted as affray under this section.
