Offences Relating to Currency and Government Stamps
(1) Making, using, or delivering any document resembling (or calculated to deceive as) a currency-note or bank-note is punished with a fine of up to ₹300. (2) Refusing, without lawful excuse, to disclose to police who printed such a document is punished with a fine of up to ₹600. (3) The person named on such a document is presumed (until proven otherwise) to have caused it to be made.
This targets lookalike "fake money" documents that resemble genuine currency closely enough to deceive, distinct from full counterfeiting - with a built-in presumption to help identify who's responsible.
Printing novelty items or promotional material designed to closely resemble real currency notes, deceptively enough to pass as genuine, falls under this section rather than full counterfeiting.
