Offences Relating to Currency and Government Stamps
Possessing counterfeit coin/stamp/currency/bank-notes, knowing or having reason to believe them counterfeit and intending their use as genuine, is punished with up to 7 years' imprisonment, fine, or both - unless the possessor proves lawful source of possession.
This criminalises mere knowing possession of counterfeit currency with intent to pass it off, with a built-in defence for anyone who can show they came by it through an innocent, lawful source.
Someone found holding a stash of counterfeit notes they know to be fake, intending to spend them, faces this offence - unless they can show the notes came from an innocent, traceable source.
