Offences Relating to Elections
(1) Giving gratification to induce or reward the exercise of an electoral right, or accepting gratification as a reward or inducement for exercising it, is "bribery" - a mere declaration of public policy or promise of public action is not an offence. (2)-(3) Offering, agreeing to give, or attempting to procure gratification counts as giving it; obtaining, agreeing to accept, or attempting to obtain it counts as accepting it.
This defines election bribery broadly, covering both the briber and the person accepting the bribe, while explicitly protecting ordinary political promises of future public policy from being treated as bribery.
Paying a voter cash specifically to vote a particular way constitutes bribery under this section, but a candidate publicly promising a policy change if elected does not.
