Offences Against the State
Knowingly aiding the escape of, rescuing, harbouring, concealing, or resisting the recapture of a State prisoner or prisoner of war is punished with life imprisonment or up to 10 years' imprisonment plus fine. A prisoner on parole who exceeds their permitted limits is deemed to have escaped.
This extends serious liability to anyone (not just custodial staff) who helps a State prisoner or POW escape, hide, or evade recapture.
A private individual who knowingly hides an escaped prisoner of war faces the same severe liability as someone who actively helped them escape in the first place.
