Offences Against the Human Body
(1) Voluntarily causing hurt using weapons/means capable of causing death (shooting/stabbing/cutting instruments, fire, heated substances, poison, corrosives, explosives, harmful-to-inhale/swallow substances, or animals) is punished with up to 3 years' imprisonment, up to ₹20,000 fine, or both. (2) Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the same means is punished with life imprisonment or 1-10 years' imprisonment plus fine.
This significantly enhances punishment when hurt is caused using genuinely dangerous means or weapons (rather than bare hands), reflecting the increased danger and severity such methods represent.
Causing injury with a knife, poison, or explosive substance carries a significantly enhanced penalty under this section compared to causing similar injury without such dangerous means.
