Offences Against the Human Body
(1) An act done with the intent/knowledge that would constitute murder if death resulted, is punished with up to 10 years' imprisonment plus fine (or life imprisonment if hurt is actually caused). (2) If the offender is already serving a life sentence, this rises to death or full-life imprisonment if hurt is caused.
This criminalises attempted murder - taking real steps toward killing someone with murderous intent, even if the victim survives - with a significantly enhanced penalty if the attempt actually causes some injury, even short of death.
Someone who shoots at a victim with clear intent to kill, but the victim survives with injuries, faces up to life imprisonment under this section - the fact that death didn't actually occur doesn't mean the crime is treated lightly.
