Directive Principles
The State shall regard the raising of the level of nutrition and the standard of living of its people and the improvement of public health as among its primary duties and, in particular, the State shall endeavour to bring about prohibition of the consumption except for medicinal purposes of intoxicating drinks and of drugs which are injurious to health.
The government should treat improving people's nutrition, living standards, and public health as one of its primary duties, and should specifically work towards prohibiting intoxicating drinks and harmful drugs, except when needed for medicine.
Government-run mid-day meal schemes in schools, public health awareness campaigns, and state-level alcohol prohibition policies (such as those in Gujarat and Bihar) all reflect this directive.
