(1) Lok Sabha seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (generally), and Scheduled Tribes in Assam's autonomous districts (separately). (2) The number of reserved seats in a State/UT is proportional to that group's population share there. (3) Assam autonomous-district ST seats get at least a population-proportional share of Assam's total Lok Sabha seats.
This guarantees Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes a proportional share of Lok Sabha seats reserved specifically for their own community's candidates, roughly matching their population share in each state - a mandatory, population-linked minimum representation guarantee built directly into the Constitution.
This is why a certain number of Lok Sabha constituencies nationwide are specifically "reserved" - meaning only Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe candidates can contest there, though all voters in that constituency, regardless of their own caste, still get to vote for those candidates.
