Union Territories & Panchayats
Omitted by the Constitution (Seventh Amendment) Act, 1956, s. 29 and Sch. (w.e.f. 1-11-1956).
This article originally contained special provisions for Coorg, a small former province that is now part of Karnataka (as the Kodagu district). It was removed once the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 and the linked Seventh Constitutional Amendment restructured India's states and abolished this separate category of territory.
This is another example of a constitutional article that once had real content but is now purely a historical marker, following India's major state boundary reorganisation in 1956.
