Fundamental Rights
No child below the age of fourteen years shall be employed to work in any factory or mine or engaged in any other hazardous employment.
Children under 14 cannot be employed in factories, mines, or any hazardous work. This is given further effect by the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 (amended in 2016), which also restricts employing adolescents (14-18 years) in hazardous occupations.
A factory or construction site employing a 12-year-old is violating Article 24 - such cases should be reported to the local Labour Department or Childline (1098), and the employer can face prosecution under the Child Labour Act.
