What is this scam?

Betting and gambling scams explode during cricket season — especially IPL — and have expanded massively with smartphone penetration. These scams specifically target young men aged 18 to 35 with promises of guaranteed winnings through 'insider' tips or access to 'fixed' matches. They have been directly linked to financial ruin, family breakdown, debt bondage, and in some tragic cases, suicide.

How it works — step by step

   Scammer sends a WhatsApp message claiming to have 'insider' knowledge from cricket team members about match outcomes.

2. 2

   First few 'tips' appear correct (by chance or by providing both outcomes to different victims).

3. 3

   Victim is moved to a private Telegram group where members all claim large winnings — all fake accounts.

4. 4

   Victim is encouraged to bet large amounts on a 'sure' match — then loses everything.

5. 5

   Fake betting platforms manipulate outcomes, show winnings that cannot be withdrawn, then disappear.

• ⚠️Betting platform not registered with any state gaming commission
• ⚠️Withdrawal from platform requires paying additional fees, taxes, or verification
• ⚠️WhatsApp group where every member is winning large amounts — all fake accounts
• ⚠️'You won a lottery you never entered' — you cannot win a lottery without participating
