Fake PM Yojana benefits, KYC, Aadhaar and PAN update fraud
Fake government scheme scams impersonate official central and state government programs โ PM Awas Yojana, Kisan Samman Nidhi, Ujjwala Yojana, free ration schemes โ to collect registration fees, Aadhaar details, or bank account information. Document update scams exploit fear of losing services โ electricity, gas, ration card, bank account โ to extract OTPs and personal data. These scams are particularly dangerous because they target rural Indians and elderly people with limited digital literacy.
SMS or WhatsApp message claims: 'Your electricity connection will be disconnected tonight โ update KYC immediately.'
Victim clicks the link โ enters their name, Aadhaar number, bank account details, and OTP.
Fraudsters use these details to take over accounts or take loans in the victim's name.
PM Yojana variant: caller claims to be from government and offers โน6,000 Kisan Samman benefit โ asks for bank account and OTP to 'transfer' the money.
Income Tax refund variant: fake IT department email or call claims โน15,000 refund is pending โ asks victim to 'verify' by sharing account details and OTP.
PAN/Aadhaar update variant: 'Your PAN/Aadhaar will be blocked in 48 hours if not linked โ share OTP to complete linking.'
