What is this scam?

This is one of the most dangerous scams targeting young Indians today. Thousands of Indians — mostly young men aged 18 to 35 — have been trafficked to Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and the Philippines under the pretext of lucrative technology and data entry jobs abroad. Once there, their passports are confiscated, they are imprisoned in scam compounds, beaten if they refuse to work, and forced to operate online fraud operations targeting victims in India and worldwide.

How it works — step by step

   Victim receives a message on WhatsApp, Telegram, or social media offering a data entry, customer service, or IT support job in Thailand, Cambodia, or 'South-East Asia' — salary ₹1,00,000 to ₹3,00,000 per month.

   The job offer looks professional — there is a company name, a website, an HR person who communicates fluently, and sometimes a video interview.

   Victim is told to travel on a tourist or e-visa — the company will arrange a work permit 'on arrival.'

   Upon arrival at the destination airport, victim is met by an agent who takes them to a remote compound. Their passport and phone are confiscated.

   Victim is told they must 'work off' their 'travel debt' — sometimes a fabricated debt of ₹10–50 lakhs.

   Victim is forced to work in a 'scam centre' — running online fraud operations. Those who refuse are beaten, tortured, or sold to another compound.

   Families in India receive desperate calls asking for money to 'pay the debt' — the traffickers use victims to extort their own families.

🚩 Red flags — warning signs

• ⚠️Job offer for data entry, customer care, IT support in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, or Laos — with salary of ₹1 lakh or more per month
• ⚠️You are told to travel on a tourist visa and that work permit will be arranged 'on arrival' or 'after joining'
• ⚠️The recruiter communicates only on WhatsApp or Telegram — no company email, no verifiable address
• ⚠️Recruiter offers to pay for your flight ticket and accommodation
• ⚠️Job description is vague — 'online work,' 'communication work,' 'marketing work' — no specific skills required
• ⚠️Recruiter becomes evasive when asked for the company's full address, registration number, or references
• ⚠️You are asked to keep the job offer confidential or not to tell your family the exact location you are going to
