📖 What Happened

Police investigations found that fraud rings in and around Jamtara, Jharkhand, specialised in convincing victims to share OTPs, card details and account credentials over the phone.

The method was simple, scalable and devastating: fake KYC updates, bank alerts and prize calls that drained victims in minutes.

The Jamtara model became a public shorthand for social-engineering-based financial fraud and inspired the Netflix series carrying the same name.

Banks NEVER ask for your OTP, PIN or full card number over the phone — hang up
Call your bank's official number (back of card) to verify any alert
