Offences Relating to Documents
Fraudulently/dishonestly, or intending public/private damage, cancelling/destroying/defacing (or attempting/secreting) a will, adoption authority, or valuable security, or committing mischief regarding such a document, is punished with life imprisonment or up to 7 years' imprisonment plus fine.
This protects wills and valuable securities from fraudulent destruction, treating destroying such a document with the same severity as forging one, given the equally serious harm caused either way.
Someone who fraudulently destroys a genuine will to prevent its rightful beneficiaries from inheriting faces this section's severe penalty - as serious as if they had forged a fake will instead.
