Offences Against Property
(1) Dishonestly or with mischief-intent breaking open/unfastening a closed receptacle believed to contain property is punished with up to 2 years' imprisonment, fine, or both. (2) The same by someone entrusted with the receptacle but lacking authority to open it is punished with up to 3 years' imprisonment, fine, or both.
This criminalises breaking into a locked container to access its contents, with an enhanced penalty when done by someone who was specifically entrusted with that container but exceeded their authority.
A person entrusted with safeguarding a locked safe, who breaks it open without authorisation to access its contents, faces a higher penalty than a stranger who does the same thing, given the breach of specific entrusted responsibility.
