Offences Relating to Religion
With deliberate and malicious intent to outrage a class's religious feelings, insulting (or attempting to insult) their religion/beliefs, by words/signs/visible representation/electronic means, is punished with up to 3 years' imprisonment, fine, or both.
This is the core "blasphemy"-adjacent provision - notably requiring DELIBERATE AND MALICIOUS intent specifically to outrage religious feelings, not merely causing offence incidentally.
This section's deliberate-and-malicious-intent requirement is a significant legal safeguard - genuine academic, artistic, or journalistic engagement with religious topics that isn't specifically intended to maliciously outrage religious feelings falls outside this offence, even if some find it uncomfortable.
