Offences Affecting Public Health, Safety and Convenience
Knowingly/negligently conveying (or causing to be conveyed) someone for hire by water in a vessel so unsafe or overloaded as to endanger their life is punished with up to 6 months' imprisonment, up to ₹5,000 fine, or both.
This directly targets unsafe or overloaded ferry/boat operations that endanger paying passengers - a recurring real-world safety issue in India.
A boat operator who knowingly overloads a passenger ferry beyond safe capacity, endangering the passengers' lives, commits this offence.
