Offences Affecting Public Health, Safety and Convenience
Knowingly selling (or offering/issuing) a drug/medical preparation as a different drug/preparation than it actually is, is punished with up to 6 months' imprisonment, up to ₹5,000 fine, or both.
This criminalises mislabelling or misrepresenting one drug as another, distinct from the adulteration offences in Sections 276-277.
Selling a cheaper, ineffective substance while knowingly representing it as a genuine, different medication is an offence under this section - directly relevant to fake-medicine scams.
