Contempts of the Lawful Authority of Public Servants
Knowingly disobeying a lawfully promulgated official order is punished with up to 6 months' imprisonment, up to ₹2,500 fine, or both - rising to up to 1 year plus up to ₹5,000 fine if the disobedience risks danger to life/health/safety or causes/risks riot or affray. Intent to cause harm isn't required, only knowledge of the order and that disobedience is likely to cause harm.
This is the general offence for defying a properly issued official order (like a prohibitory order), with an enhanced penalty when the defiance risks public safety or unrest - notably, the offence doesn't require actually wanting to cause harm, just knowing the order exists and that ignoring it is risky.
Knowingly defying a lawfully issued order banning a religious procession along a certain street, thereby risking a riot, triggers this section's enhanced penalty given the public-safety risk involved.
