Contempts of the Lawful Authority of Public Servants
Bidding/purchasing at an official sale on behalf of someone known to be legally incapable of purchasing, or bidding without intending to honour the resulting obligations, is punished with up to 1 month's imprisonment, up to ₹200 fine, or both.
This prevents bad-faith or fraudulent bidding at official auctions - either purchasing for someone legally barred from buying, or making a bid one never intends to actually honour.
Placing a bid at an official property auction with no genuine intention of paying if it wins, purely to disrupt the sale, is an offence under this section.
