Offences Against the Human Body
(1) Voluntarily obstructing someone from proceeding in a direction they have a right to go is "wrongful restraint" - except good-faith obstruction of a private way one genuinely believes they have a lawful right to block. (2) Punished with up to 1 month's simple imprisonment, up to ₹5,000 fine, or both.
This criminalises blocking someone's lawful freedom of movement, with a specific good-faith exception for genuine (even if ultimately mistaken) property/right-of-way disputes.
Physically blocking someone's path without any genuine legal basis to do so, preventing them from proceeding where they have a right to go, constitutes wrongful restraint under this section.
