General Provisions
A Court sentencing someone to rigorous imprisonment may order solitary confinement for part of that term, capped at 3 months total, on a sliding scale: up to 1 month (for sentences up to 6 months), 2 months (6 months to 1 year), or 3 months (over 1 year).
This allows courts to add a period of solitary confinement to a rigorous imprisonment sentence, but strictly caps how much - the maximum allowed scales up with the length of the overall sentence, up to an absolute 3-month ceiling.
A person sentenced to 8 months' rigorous imprisonment could have at most 2 months of that term served in solitary confinement, per this section's sliding-scale cap.
