Stolen migration dreams and life savings
Visa and overseas job scams specifically target Indians who aspire to work abroad โ particularly in Gulf countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman), Canada, Australia, and European nations. These scams have devastated thousands of Indian families who take loans, sell jewellery, or mortgage property to fund what they believe is a life-changing opportunity abroad. Scammers collect fees in stages โ each payment followed by a new requirement โ until the victim has nothing left.
Scammer places advertisements in local newspapers, WhatsApp groups, or Facebook claiming to be a recruitment agent with job offers abroad.
Victim meets the agent who presents convincing documents โ fake company letterheads, fabricated offer letters from foreign employers, sometimes forged visa stamps.
Fees are collected in stages: processing fee, document preparation, medical test, visa stamp fee, travel insurance โ accumulating to โน50,000 to โน5 lakhs or more.
Agent provides a fake tracking number or forged visa document to delay suspicion while collecting more money.
On the scheduled departure date โ the agent is unreachable. The phone is switched off. The 'office' is empty.
Some victims are sent abroad on genuine tourist visas to work illegally โ leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and unable to seek help from Indian authorities.
